WLPS students engage in a specialist Physical Education program where they are introduced to a range of sports and physical activities. Professional coaches regularly assist the specialist Physical Education teacher in delivering engaging and high quality lessons designed to develop skills in popular sports.
Each year the school has its own Sports Day that focuses on athletics and collaborative team games. In addition, our annual swimming programme culminates in a Splash Carnival. All children and families are allocated to either the Bilbies, Wallabies or Echidnas team. On carnival days loud cheering led by dedicated and enthusiastic House Captains adds to the fun and excitement.
WLPS students are also involved in the Mid-Murray Sports Day with Blanchetown, Ramco and Morgan Primary Schools, the Hot Shots Tennis Carnival and a range of SAPSASA events. Students from our school have represented both the Riverland at State Championships and South Australia at National Championships.
In Languages other than English classes students not only learn about and gain an understanding of the Spanish language, but they also acquire knowledge and understandings of Spanish culture, society and traditions. Developing skills and understandings for effective intercultural communication is a key objective of Spanish language classes and is relevant for all cross-cultural engagement opportunities.
Dedicated volunteers also offer a weekly community Punjabi class that focuses on Punjabi culture and language. This multi-age class is usually held on Wednesday afternoons and open to all community members.
Drama, Dance and Music are integrated into the learning experiences led by each classroom teacher, as well as our specialist language (Spanish) and Health and Physical Education classes.
Each year WLPS holds a school concert where each child is involved in performing an item with their class. These performances range from musical items, dance pieces, poetry and drama and often incorporate an element of humour. This concert encourages students and staff to demonstrate their abilities within the areas of the performing arts and is always well received.
Students in Years 4 to 6 are provided with the opportunity to take part in the combined schools' choir that performs in the Riverland Festival of Music at the Chaffey Theatre in Renmark. Through participation in the choir, students are able to audition for solos and compere roles. The Riverland Festival of Music provides students with the opportunity to perform for a large audience in a concert setting. WLPS has been affiliated with the Festival of Music for over forteen years.

WLPS students can access individual piano, guitar and voice lessons while at school. The instrumental tutors that offer lessons at WLPS are coordinated by Music Alive.

To embrace the required learning pathways for the jobs of the future, WLPS has made a commitment to ensure that our students are able to engage in and challenge themselves in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Every student at WLPS has access to an individual school-supplied and managed iPad as well as a variety of other tools for exploring digital and design technologies. At WLPS iPads are viewed as a learning tool that enable our students to access information, express themselves creatively and develop the skills for safe and ethical online engagement. Web-filtering software, school based management of devices, education and user agreements that are updated on an annual basis ensure that students and staff are held accountable to being cyber-safe.
