Enrolment Process
We know choosing the right school can be a hard decision. Our enrolment process is designed to be simple, personal and focused on getting to know your child and family.
Step 1: Visit Our School
The best way to experience Waikerie Lutheran Primary School is to see it in action.
Book a tour with our Principal and explore our learning spaces, meet our staff and discover what makes WLPS a place where every child is known, supported and encouraged to thrive.
You can submit an Expression of Interest either before or after your tour, or skip straight to completing an application.
Step 2: Complete an Application
When you’re ready to take the next step, complete an enrolment application form.
There is no cost to apply.
Step 3: Meet with the Principal
Following your application, you’ll be invited to an enrolment meeting with the Principal.
This is an opportunity for us to get to know your family and for you to ask any questions you may have.
We’ll discuss how we can best support your child, including:
- Learning strengths and interests
- Communication preferences
- Health or dietary requirements
- Existing supports or allied health involvement
- Any additional needs that will help your child settle and succeed
Our goal is to ensure every child receives the support they need from the very beginning.
Step 4: Receive an Offer
If a place is available, you will receive a formal Letter of Offer.
To secure your child’s place, simply accept the offer of enrolment in writing.
Step 5: Preparing for a Great Start
Once enrolled, we’ll stay in touch and support your family in the lead-up to your child’s first day.
Depending on your child’s circumstances, this may include:
- Transition visits
- Orientation activities
- Classroom visits
- Information for parents
- Additional transition support for students moving from another school
We want every child to feel confident, welcome and ready to begin their journey at WLPS.
Foundation Enrolment Information
For children starting their first year of school
When can my child start school?
Waikerie Lutheran Primary School follows South Australia’s current Foundation class intake guidelines.
- Children who turn 5 years old before 1 May can start school in Foundation at the beginning of that year (Term 1).
- Children who turn 5 years old between 1 May and 31 October can start school in Term 3 (mid-year intake). These children generally complete six terms of Foundation before progressing to Year 1. Families may choose to wait until the following year to begin school. Mid-year intake is not compulsory.
- Children who turn 5 years old after 31 October will usually begin school at the start of the following school year.
Should my child start at mid-year or wait until the following year?
Every child is different.
Some children are ready to begin school as soon as they become eligible, while others benefit from additional time before starting school. We encourage families to discuss their child’s individual readiness, development and social needs with our Principal.
A school tour and enrolment conversation provide an opportunity to explore the option that is best for your child and family.
How long will my child spend in Foundation?
Children who begin school in Term 1 typically complete four terms of Foundation before moving to Year 1. Children who commence through the mid-year intake (Term 3) typically complete six terms of Foundation, allowing additional time to build confidence and strong foundations for future learning.
I’m not sure whether my child is eligible to start school. What should I do?
We’re happy to help.
Contact the school office or arrange a conversation with the Principal. We can discuss your child’s birth date, explain the available intake options and help you decide the most appropriate starting time for your child.
